TRINITY WEEKLY BULLETIN - Week commencing 31st March 2025

Whole School Updates

Homework

From next term, each class will have a designated page on the website for homework. Weekly spellings will be posted on each class page, along with Learning Means the World enrichment activities. Staff will also provide suggested strategies for spelling and phonics practice. Links to the pages will follow, along with a detailed email to explain expectations. Look out for this in your inbox next week!

Lunchboxes

In an attempt to prevent lunchboxes from going missing we have implemented a new system. Each class now has a trolley on their designated playground where they should put their lunchbox for the remainder of their playtime. Ideally children would collect their lunchbox at the end of their lunchbreak, or if not at the end of the school day. We are really trying to encourage children to take responsibility for their belongings, so if you can remind them to use the trolleys this would be much appreciated. Please also make sure items are labelled.

Easter Church Service

We hope as many of you as possible will join us at Trinity Church on Friday 4th April at 10:30am for our Easter Service and farewell to Rev Duncan Carter.

Please also remember pick up is at 1:15pm on Friday.

Early Years (Reception)

Beale Park

We currently don't have enough parent helpers for the trip to Beale Park to go ahead on 15th May. If you are able to accompany us between 9:00am - 3:00pm please CLICK HERE to let Mrs Leppard know.  We currently only have one parent from Bryon class and four from Jeffers, so we are five helpers short.

Key Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2)

Phonics screening check

Following discussions at parents evening, we have emailed an example of a previous phonics screening check, to enable you to practice at home with your child.

Please can we also encourage your child to play the Phase 5 games on Phonics Play, specifically Buried Treasure, Dragon's Den and Picnic on Pluto: PhonicsPlay - Phase 5 Resources

The more your child practises, the easier it will become, so please practise with them at home as often as you can.

If you have any questions, please email your child's teacher.

Lower Key Stage 2 (Years 3 & 4)

Forest School

LKS2 are starting Forest School after the Easter holidays:

  • Tuesday - Cowell (Year 3)
  • Wednesday – Pilkey (Year 4)
  • Thursday - Coelho (Year 3/4)

Forest School is a wonderful opportunity for children to enjoy themselves while exploring and developing a relationship with the natural world.  It takes place within the School grounds, in an area where we are fortunate to have fantastic outdoor learning spaces, lovely mature trees and plants, as well as some interesting minibeasts!

Please note that children will be going outside whatever the weather and it is important that children are dressed appropriately for safety, comfort and warmth.  Arms and legs must always be covered to protect from scratches and bites.  On their designated day, please can your child come into school wearing their Forest School clothing.  These should be clothes suitable for outdoor activities that you won’t mind getting muddy.  Clothing must be plain, dark and unbranded - this is not the time for children to be coming into school in their most fashionable clothes. Please could they also bring in waterproof trousers/dungarees and wellington boots in a named bag.

Clothing List for Forest School - (please ensure all items are named)

  • Jacket/coat
  • Waterproof trousers
  • Wellington boots
  • Long-sleeved top/jumper - plain, dark colour and unbranded
  • Long trousers/leggings/tracksuit - plain, dark colour and unbranded

One of the special things about Forest School is that it is child led and, while each session will offer opportunities and suggestions for activities, it is up to the child if they wish to do them.  While some children may be keen to make a den as an organised activity, or be running around and busy, others may prefer to go off quietly with a magnifying glass and search for insects, or just have some reflective time.  We realise that every child is unique and has different needs and all chosen activities will be supported and valued.  There are many ways and things for young children to be learning at Forest School and while these may link to class work, we also offer an opportunity for the child to grow as a whole; physically, socially, intellectually, emotionally and spiritually.

Children will enjoy a sense of freedom at Forest School, however there are, of course, some rules.  We want to keep your child safe and we will show them the boundaries, what they can and can’t touch and safe practices.  We want them to push themselves and take risks, but only once everything is in place to make the activity as safe as possible. The aim is to encourage resilient, confident, independent and creative learners.

Sessions are run by a trained Forest School Leader, who is also an Outdoor First Aider, and at least one other supporting adult.  If you have any questions, or would like to know more please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.

Due to staffing changes, we will be looking for parent volunteers to support the sessions between 1:00 -3:10pm (or even part of that time) and, if you are able to help, we would really appreciate it.  Please contact your class rep to volunteer. The sessions cannot take place without it!

LKS2 Play

During the dress rehearsal today we still had several children without costumes. Please can all children have a costume by Monday. If you are struggling to provide one, please email your child's teacher. We are looking forward to welcoming parents and carers to watch the performance on Wednesday at Trinity Church, starting at 1:30pm.

Upper Key Stage 2 (Years 5 & 6)

Parent information evening about Smartphones at Gillotts

All parents and carers of children in Years 5 and 6 are strongly encouraged to attend a talk on smartphones. The event will take place from 6:00 to 7:00pm on Tuesday 29 April in the hall at Gillotts school.  Tom Boulter, Director of Education at River Learning Trust will set the scene, based on work in the primary and secondary schools in the trust, and drawing on what the research is telling us about the issue.  Catharine Darnton, Headteacher at Gillotts and Tim Coulson, Headteacher at Valley Road, will then add their perspectives.  The aim will be to support parents to make their own informed decisions, and also to consider how parents and schools can best collaborate. Tickets are limited, maximum two per family, and can be booked through Eventbrite by CLICKING HERE

Zephaniah Class - No forest school on Thursday 3rd April

There will be no forest school next week for Zephaniah class due to the Easter service rehearsal. Please send your child to school in normal uniform on Thursday 3rd April. Thank you.
