Whole School Updates

No school on Monday 5th May

Just a reminder that Monday is a Bank Holiday and therefore no school (and why it is not possible to book a school lunch for this day). 

Art Competition

Reminder for any children wishing to take part in the Portrait of a Loved One competition, to submit their entries to school by Tuesday 6th May.

Jewellery

Please can we remind parents that the only items of jewellery permitted for school are:

  • A watch suitable for school (no smart watches please)
  • Plain stud earrings

Other items of jewellery are not a part of the school uniform and may prove hazardous in some school activities.

Top Doodling class of the week

For a second week in a row, Dahl class (Year 2) were our top doodlers. Please encourage your child to do Doodle Maths most days and we look forward to seeing which class gets the trophy next week.

Whole school VE Day celebration - Thursday 8th May

Children can dress in red, white and blue. If you are able to support our fundraising for the Royal British Legion please visit our Just Giving page by CLICKING HERE. If every child donated £1 then that would be £300 to support injured war veterans.

School Council reps visit to the Town Hall for VE Day - Thursday 8th May

For parents / carers of our school council representatives who are going to the Town Hall on Thursday 8th May, please remember:

  • 1940's inspired clothing
  • Make a gas mask
  • Speak to grandparents or relatives about their experiences and potentially be prepared to share it verbally or in writing
  • If pupils wish to get changed into red, white and blue when they get back to school then please send them in with a change of clothes (see above)

Spring Fun Run - Friday 23rd May

Hopefully class reps have circulated details about this FOTS event, taking place on Friday 23rd May. If you are able to support the New Brainstorm School in Uganda, then please CLICK HERE to visit the FOTS donation page.

Free dog workshop - Thursday 29th May

On Thursday 29th May (during half term) Henley Library are hosting a workshop at 10:30am to teach children about dog safety. The event for children is run by the Dogs Trust and will feature a toy puppy to demonstrate how to behave safely around dogs. If your child is keen to attend, please let the Library know by dropping into the Library, or phoning them on 01865 815 278 or visit their Facebook page.

New date for postponed cross country event - Thursday 5th June

Our multi school cross country event will now take place on Thursday 5th June. No action is required, this is just for information as all children will be encouraged to take part. Fingers crossed for good weather!

Sunny weather

We kindly request that parents / carers apply suncream before sending your child to school. You are welcome to send them with a named suncream in their bag to be re-applied, if necessary. Please also send a named hat / cap if it's sunny.


Key Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2)

Reading Challenge

It has been wonderful to see so many KS1 children engaging in the Reading Challenge.  We would love to see children continuing with this, so that we can give out more certificates and book vouchers.  Please encourage your child to bring a book home and read it with them.

Year 5 Swimming

Every Tuesday this term. Please remember swimming hats, goggles and remove earrings.

Homework

Please encourage your child to do Doodle Maths daily as this will really help consolidate their learning and for Year 6 pupils with their upcoming SATs (Year 6).

Year 6 Surprise celebration day - Friday 16th May

Thank you to parents / carers who have donated £5 towards covering the costs associated with the Year 6 celebration day. If you are able to contribute and are yet to do so, please visit School Gateway to make payment. The Year 6 pupils are very excited about this, though they don't know any of the details!
