Welcome Back!

September 8, 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that everyone has enjoyed their summer break.  The staff and I welcome you back for this new academic year with a special welcome to all of our new families who are joining us.

Trinity is a vibrant school where children are enthusiastic and motivated to achieve endless possibilities.  The children are at the heart of every decision we make to ensure that they are happy, confident and eager to come to school.  Already your children have settled well, they look smart and they bring with them happy, smiling faces as they start their new year; a new journey where they will continue to foster their passion for learning and curiosity and build those memories for a life-time.

We have two new members of staff joining us this year; Miss Chaplin who will be part of our Reception and Mrs Bradbury who joins Key Stage 1. They already feel very much part of the team, blending well and bringing excitement and new ideas as they prepare to lead their classes.

Congratulations to the staff and children of Year 2 and Year 6 whose SATs results were released just before the end of the summer term.  Their results show, once more, that Trinity children continue to perform at the highest level with respect to progress. A breakdown of all the overall Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 results for each subject will be shared on our web-site in the coming month.   We are proud of all our children and their achievements.  With that said, a test result does not define who your children are. Trinity children flourish because they are respectful, resourceful and resilient members of our Henley community; they grow in confidence throughout their school life, believing in themselves and their own special capabilities whatever they may be.

Our ‘Creative Learning Journey’ is an exciting one which teaches skills through exploration of well planned- inspirational topics. Your children learn to question, research, debate and express themselves in written and oral form inspired by topics that capture their imaginations and encourage them to want to learn.  We would love you to be part of this and welcome any parents with knowledge and skills linked to the topic being taught to come in and share their experiences with the children.

Our Christian value for the Autumn Term is Respect and we will be teaching your children about Thankfulness and Justice.  It’s the most lovely time of the year when, traditionally, we are taking stock of all that we have in either harvest time or thanksgiving type celebrations.  Your children will be very reflective as we task them with thinking about where their life essentials are coming from or indeed if they will ever run out.

Justice is a more difficult challenge since children often associate this with ‘unfairness and punishment’.

‘If you've been afforded more but you don't share with those in need’,

Our teaching will also make it clear that this is not just greedy; it's an injustice.  It is indeed a topic which will generate much debate across all year groups.   Teaching children that everyone is deserving of such things means teaching them to value diversity and all people.

I know this will be another amazing year of celebration and I continue to be grateful for all the support you have shown as I begin my sixth year in post.   What a wonderful journey it has been so far.  During the next couple of weeks, each phase will hold a ‘Welcome Presentation’.  This will   involve learning about the curriculum being delivered, trips and all other information which is relevant to your child's phase and year group. (Please see the important dates and reminders which have been attached to this message.)

Should you have any other queries or questions, please don’t hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher or to our friendly office staff who will do their very best to be of help and assistance. As parents you play a vital role in our success and so we are always keen to listen to what you have to say.  My door is always open; feel free to contact me also if you wish to share important matters and/or ideas relating to the future developments here at Trinity.
