Curriculum Newsletters

The Curriculum Newsletters for this term have now been emailed to parents and they are also available on our website - Curriculum Newsletters.

Open Day

We are holding an Open Day on Tuesday 21st April from 9:30am for prospective families, particularly for anyone with a child who is due to start school this September. If you know anyone who has a Pre-school aged child who might be interested in coming along, please let them know.

FOTS Chair

Following Mrs Whittle's email earlier this week, FOTS are looking for more parents to get involved, to enable the scheduled activities to take place. FOTS plays such a vital role in enhancing school life for all our children and we really need more volunteers to enable it to continue. If you are able to help, on any level, please call Kat on 07977 741 586 or Mel on 07732 497 476.

House Points Winners

Congratulations to pupils in HARRISON House, who were the winners of last term's House Points competition. Due to a very busy couple of weeks at the beginning of this term, pupils in Harrison House are welcome to come into school on Friday 13th March wearing non-uniform (home clothes). If you are unsure of which House your child is in, then please contact their teacher.

Inspiring Young People to Dream Big about their Future Careers

We want to inspire our pupils (and other young people who live in and around Henley) to dream big about their futures, to know it’s possible to achieve their ambitions and to have a career that truly inspires them.  We know that the adults who live in Henley now have so much experience that they could share to help young people on their journey. In partnership with Education Henley and other schools, we are reaching out to our parent community to ask if you can help.

We are asking you to make a short video on your phone in which you answer the following questions:

  • What is your name and what do you do as a job?
  • How did you get to the role you are in today?
  • What are the best aspects of your job?
  • What is less good and how do you manage that?
  • What advice would you give to young people who might be interested in doing a similar job to you?
  • Where could young people find out more about your job?

When you have recorded your video, please use ‘We transfer’ to upload to henleyeducation25@gmail.com. Your video will be accessible to students through a password-protected YouTube channel. You can get support for how to do this from this video recorded by a group of Henley College students and from the attached help sheet.

Writing Competition

The Peregrine Prize is a schools-wide celebration of emerging writing talent.  The judges this year are writers who have studied at the University of Oxford, and have been awarded accolades for their own work. This initiative invites students (age 8 and above) to submit their original written work for the chance to be recognised for their creativity, voice and storytelling skills. They might even have a chance to meet the Mayor and find their story published in a book! Submissions of between 50 and 1,500 words are welcomed in a range of formats, including short stories, poetry and creative non-fiction. The deadline for submissions is 8th April. Please visit www.oxfordwritershouse.com/publications/peregrine for further details about this year's theme and how and when to submit. Good luck!

Upper Key Stage 2 (Years 5 & 6)

Henley Youth Festival

We have secured tickets for children in Years 5 & 6 to watch a performance of What you Will, performed by The Globe Players on Monday 9th March, in school. This engaging introduction to Shakespeare explores the story of Shakespeare’s life and career, while bringing some of his most famous scenes to life. The ticket price has been reduced to £3.00 per child, thanks to a kind donation from FOTS. Please make payment on SchoolGateway by Monday 9th March.
