At Trinity CE Primary School we have high aspirations and ambitions for our children and we believe that no child should be left behind.

We strongly believe that it is not about where you come from but your passion and thirst for knowledge, and your dedication and commitment to learning that make the difference between success and failure, and we are determined to ensure that our children are given every chance to realise their full potential.

We believe that one of the biggest barriers for children can be poverty of expectation and so are determined to create a climate that does not limit a child’s potential in any way.

The Pupil Premium Grant is additional funding given to schools to:

• raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers
• ensure all children achieve as well as they possibly can
• support children and young people with parents in the regular armed forces

Pupil Premium Spending at Trinity

Our key objective in using the Pupil Premium Grant is to narrow the gap between pupil groups. As a school we have an excellent track record of ensuring that pupils make good progress, but historically levels of attainment have been lower for FSM (eligible for free school meals) – this has also been a national trend. Through targeted interventions we are working to eliminate barriers to learning and progress. For children who start school with low attainment on entry, our aim is to ensure that they make accelerated progress in order to reach age related expectations as they move through the school. Our results show that our pupil premium children are performing much more in line and in some cases exceeding within their year groups.

We have analysed our data thoroughly and in addition to this we have identified some key principles which we believe will maximise the impact of our pupil premium spending;

to provide a culture where:

• staff believe in ALL children
• there are “no excuses” made for underperformance
• staff adopt a “solution-focused” approach to overcoming barriers

Trinity CE Primary School aims to tackle the range of barriers including; attendance, behaviour, external factors, professional development and seeks to focus on improving outcomes for vulnerable groups of children through improving the quality of teaching and learning, parental engagement, opportunities for first-hand experiences and development of literacy and numeracy skills.

Trinity CE Primary School uses assessment systems, case studies and pupil profiles to track and enable thorough analysis of data (Reading, Writing and Maths) to identify pupils who are under achieving and why.  We direct resources and interventions to accelerate progress of vulnerable groups of children to close the attainment gap compared to their peers.  We also ensure class teachers, phase leaders and subject leaders know which pupils are eligible for Pupil Premium, so they can take responsibility for accelerating progress and accountability is shared across our school.

• Underachievement at all levels is targeted (not just lower attaining pupils) and children’s individual needs are considered carefully so that we provide support for those children who could be doing “even better if…..”
