Summer Term 2025
Reception went on a trip to Beale Park. We had a wonderful day. We started with a workshop on insects. The children learnt all about different types of insects. They then got to meet real insects, find out about them and stroke them. We then went for a walk around the park looking at different types of animals. After lunch we had a very exciting ride on the train around the park.
This week in Jeffers, we flew to Russia. Mrs Quinn brought in her Russian dolls for us to do observational drawings of. We discussed their size and how tricky it would be to paint the tiny ones! We also studied the Russian artist Kandinsky and mixed watercolours to paint concentric circles. In Maths we have been looking at doubles so the children made some doubles butterflies with numicon.
This week we flew to India and have explored the food, music and animals that live there. We have also been using 'First, Then and Now' stories in Maths to help us with our addition.
This week we launched our new topic of 'Come Fly With Me'. Every week, we will fly to a different country and explore their culture and history. This week, we flew to China and learnt all about how they celebrate the Lunar New Year. We have been exploring numbers up to 20 this week and the children loved using play dough dumplings to represent these numbers on tens frames.
Spring Term 2025
Jeffers class went on a bug hunt in our outdoor area. We read a story about a ladybird who changed its colours when they felt different emotions. The children chose colours for their own ladybird to tell me how they are feeling.
Jeffers class were lucky enough to have a Bhangra workshop as part of the Henley Youth Festival. We learnt lots of dance moves and performed them to some lovely music. We also went on a hunt for tiny animals in our outside area. The class found that the best place to spot tiny animals was under our logs. In Maths, we have been looking at number bonds to 10 and writing number sentences.
We visited the church to look at special artefacts they have there and stain glass windows
We have had a busy week in Reception. We celebrated Pancake day, World Book Day and had a visit from the famous Henley Penny Farthing riders. The children have been exploring the new outside area set up and love using the mud kitchen to cook Miss Parkinson her lunch!
We have been exploring the concepts ‘shorter’, ‘longer’, ‘shortest’ and ‘longest’. The class went outside and had a competition to find the ‘longest’ stick. In RE we have been learning about the Christian church and we were lucky enough to be invited to Trinity Church to have a tour of their beautiful stained-glass windows and the stories behind them. The class also made dinosaur dioramas and had a visit from a professional athlete!
In Reception the children have been learning about baptisms in RE. The class got to look at some pictures of a child’s baptism and the special objects that are used to celebrate being welcomed into the Christian faith. The class also got to use clay to make their very own dinosaur footprints and fossils. Miss Parkinson brought in old paint sample leaflets and the class got busy peeling them off and making dinosaur collages. They turned out brilliantly!
In Reception this week we have been exploring different representations of 6, 7 and 8. We have sung ‘8 in the bed’ and used tens frames to show 1 more and 1 less. Dinosaurs landed in the classroom and the children have been busy exploring fossils, cave paintings and dinosaur eggs.
The children in Jeffers class have been very busy this week! We have been learning about different jobs people can have both inside school and in the world around us. We looked at ID badges and why it’s important to wear them. The children made their own lanyards using string and paper. A giant balancing scale arrived in our outside area this week and the children have been busy exploring the concepts ‘heavier’ and ‘lighter’.
