Welcome to the Zephaniah class page. Below you will find details of what the children have been learning and doing at school. Please click on the link to the right of this page for homework.

Summer Term 2025

Year 5 visited Hill End outdoor learning centre where they undertook a number of team challenges including den building. We had a wonderful day in the fresh air and sunshine and learned some valuable survival skills.

After an assembly explaining the origins and meaning behind the Japanese and UK Ekiden event, on Monday afternoon this week Zephaniah Class took part in Trinity's very own mini-Ekiden relay race. The children worked in 4 teams to pass the coloured sash to one another after completing a lap of the cross country course. An amazing effort on a very warm afternoon.

This week in Zephaniah Class we have been playing percussion instruments and composing our own soundscapes. The children enjoyed singing Swing Lo Sweet Chariot in a two part harmony after learning about its origins, then re-creating the melody on a xylophone using the notes FAC. We also used several different percussion instruments to create a soundscape inspired by a steam train.

As part of Big Green Week, pupils wrote poems about the river and Enzo was selected a a runner up. He and his family were invited to the prize giving and poetry reading ceremony and Enzo read his poem out loud. Well done to everyone who entered and Enzo for his fantastic poem.

Year 5 have been learning about the life of Martin Luther King Jnr this week - understanding the actions he took, the impact of his work and the ongoing legacy he left behind.

As Year 6 began their rehearsals for Matilda Junior, Year 5 have been continuing with the Learning Means the World topic and this week have been researching the origins of folk music across the British Isles. The children worked in pairs to research and present their findings to the rest of the group.

After a busy week of SATs the Year 6 pupils enjoyed a day of fun and celebration

Zephaniah class discovered the technique of neurographic art - this approach invites the artist to consider a challenge or worry, to then draw this in lines very quickly, to then 'soften' those lines before using colour to reflect their thoughts and mood. This is all done to quiet, relaxing music. The children really enjoyed this activity and produced some beautiful artwork.

To mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day on Thursday, we created our own blackout poetry using an extract from the Tom Palmer novel 'After the War' and made our own bunting.

In Zephaniah class this week we have been learning about collaboration and teamwork, as well as discussing what qualities we would like our collaborators to have. The groups developed their own charters and tried to put these into practice when completing their challenges!

Spring Term 2025

We've had a busy last week of term in Zephaniah Class, after watching LKS2's fantastic production we turned our thoughts to our end of term service and saying a huge thank you to Rev. Carter who is retiring. A huge wave of thanks to him!

Pupils attended the Henley Youth Festival workshop - repurposing materials to make some wonderfully creative and colourful headdresses with Emma Cooling.

We spent the afternoon focussing on identifying online scams and what to do if we found ourselves not quite sure if something was real. We had some great discussions and debates about what and who to trust. We also generated our own secure passwords, which hopefully the children have not told you about but have implemented!

World Book Day

We have been discussing the importance of libraries in schools and communities. Inspired by our current English lessons based on the book 'I believe in Unicorns' we made our own protest posters - the children really enjoyed putting forward their opinions and thoughts on the topic.

We have been learning about the stages of a volcanic eruption - we made 3D diorama models to show this. We have also been learning about where volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis are most likely to occur in the  world and why.
