Main purpose
To provide learning and care support for pupils to help work towards building the foundations of their education. This will involve working with the teacher to plan and deliver activities and supporting pupils with routines, transitions and behaviour management.
Duties and responsibilities
We are looking for an individual who:
- Has prior experience working in an EYFS setting, preferably in a Reception class
- Has prior experience working with Reception aged children, supporting learning in early reading and early maths
- Is willing to help contribute and help set up the EYFS classroom environment
- Has worked constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles & responsibilities and your own position within these
- Has the ability to relate exceptionally well to children and adults.
- Has the ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities
- Self motivated
- Understands the EYFS and Development Matters Framework
- Understands semantic phonics and have had some experience delivering phonic activities to small groups. Build a positive relationship with the pupils, promoting high self-esteem, independence and social inclusion
- Promote high standards of behaviour, responding to incidents in line with the school’s behaviour policy
- Assist with the development and delivery of education
- Support pupils with their social, emotional and mental health needs, escalating concerns where appropriate
Teaching and learning
- Demonstrate an informed and efficient approach to teaching and learning by adopting relevant strategies to support the work of the teacher and increase the pupil’s achievement
- Support the teaching of a broad and balanced curriculum aimed at helping the pupil achieve their full potential in all areas of learning
- Promote, support and facilitate inclusion by encouraging participation of the pupils in learning and extracurricular activities
- Use effective behaviour management strategies consistently in line with the school’s policy and procedures
- Through observations, provide regular feedback to teachers on the pupil’s progress, attainment and barriers to learning
- Communicate effectively with other staff members & pupils
- Collaborate and work with colleagues and other relevant professionals within the school
- Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues
Professional development
- Help keep their own knowledge and understanding relevant and up to date by reflecting on their own practice, liaising with school leaders, and identifying relevant professional development to improve personal effectiveness
- Take opportunities to build the appropriate skills, qualifications, and/or experience needed for the role, with support from the school
- Take part in the school’s appraisal procedures
Other areas of responsibility
- Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and our safeguarding and child protection policies
- Promote the safeguarding of all pupils in the school
