Autumn Term 2025
We had lots of fun in maths last week for the launch of our new topic area. Miss Newman told Pilkey Class that we were going to turn the top playground into an ice rink, and we needed to work out the area of the surface so we knew how much ice to order! The children worked incredibly hard in groups to measure the sides and calculate the total area. Unfortunately, Miss Newman later had to break the news that this was just an imagined scenario ,but even so, we had a fantastic time doing some hands-on, practical maths learning!

In our LMTW topic we have been looking at rocks and soil. Here are some pictures of us looking at 3 soil examples and noting their features. A number of children brough soil samples into school. We had soils from back gardens, compost heaps, parks and coastal gardens. We were able to make judgments in regard to where the soils came from by looking at the features. We even found some bugs!

This week as part of our new Learning Means the World unit we have been collecting rocks from around the school. A number of children have also brought in rocks that they have collected from holidays, seaside trips or just their gardens. We have classified them and we are now learning about the 3 types of rocks. They are: igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary.
