Autumn Term 2025

On Friday 28th November, we welcomed PC Michael Dix from Thames Valley Police into school to talk to the year 5 and 6 children about a range of topics including bullying, social media and behaviour in the community and the laws around these. He reminded us that the age of criminal responsibility is 10 and highlighted a campaign called 'Stay True to You' that encourages young people to trust their instincts. The children had some excellent insights and questions and we very much appreciated PC Dix's time.

Over the past few weeks, Palmer class have begun our new LMTW topic, Fighting Footballer. The children stepped into character as Walter Tull and his family, exploring his life and experiences through role play. They also carried out research into Barbados, where Walter’s father, Daniel, was born.

In PE, we have continued developing our skills in basketball and handball, practising jump shots, dribbling, and a range of passes.

Using some basic sewing skills to attach the button and leaf, we created a really effective and poignant display of our work for Remembrance Day this week.

We have been continuing our LMTW topic of British Bulldog, the children wrote speeches in the style of Churchill and delivered them to the class. The children also made their own poppies ahead of Remembrance Day, by using their sewing skills in D&T. We have begun our new topics in English, Maths and PE.

Palmer class created some Harvest art work and performed a class poem at the church service. We have also been busy developing agility skills in PE and working on different representations in Maths.

This week we have been experimenting with colours, creating different tones, tints and hues. We have also been working on our dances in PE adding in dynamic movements and thinking about the space and relationships between each pose and dance move. In English we have begun our independent write - carrying on the story of Cosmic.

This week Palmer class had fun making some clay creatures in Forest School, developed agility skills in Kabaddi and written and presented work on the Earth, Sun and Moon.

It’s been a fantastic start to Year 5! In LMTW, we launched our 'Mission Control' topic where the children became human models of the Earth, Sun and Moon, acting out their orbits. In PE, they’ve learned the basics of Kabaddi, while in Maths they’ve been estimating and measuring angles. We’ve also begun our English text, Cosmic, which the children are already enjoying.
