Autumn Term 2025
This week we started our new topic Lindow Man in LMTW. The first few lessons have been focusing on the Stone Age and we have been learning about hunter gatherers and how surviving in the wild was not easy. The natural habitat was full of threats and assets. Survival was in part about how well people used the assets to protect themselves from threats. The children imagined they had been transported back in time to the Stone Age and explored the school grounds to look for assets and consider the threat they would protect them against. Some were very convincing!

This week we have enjoyed creating our own soil profiles to represent the different layers of bedrock, parent rock, subsoil and topsoil. We used a delicious combination of marshmallows, cheerios, coco pops and chocolate biscuits! We’ve also been playing Kim’s Memory Game to help us learn our spellings! We looked carefully at a set of words, then closed our eyes whilst our partner removed one of the words. We scored a point if we were able to identify which word was missing and a bonus point if we could then spell it. It was a fun challenge that helped us focus, think carefully, and improve our spelling skills by encouraging our visual memory.

Our creative students have been busy making their own stop-motion animations! 🎬 They began by storyboarding their ideas — planning each scene and deciding how their stories would unfold — before bringing them to life through careful movement and lots of patience. Using tablets and cameras, the children took individual photos, making tiny changes to their characters or props between each shot. When the photos were sequenced together, their stories flowed smoothly, creating some truly imaginative and entertaining animations!

Our current Learning Means the World Topic is Hot Off The Press. The children came across a shocking crime scene in our class. A terrible teacher had come into the classroom, stolen house points and left a note on a tissue paper saying, 'I'm going to rules the school'. The children conducted an investigation using the process of chromatography to decide who could have committed the crime.

Coelho class have been exploring the properties of 3D shapes, by constructing their own. They then looked at how many straws and pieces of blu-tack they used to describe the edges, vertices and faces of these shapes.
